Most students who are home schooled are then sent to private secondary schools and then to universities and colleges. However, in rare cases, students get a rude shock when they find that their top notch elementary and secondary education is not accredited and that they need to be coming from an accredited high school in order to be admitted to college. Of course, this is a rare occurrence, but the fact is that it happens more often than one would think. Another rude awakening for children of home school education is the difference between their elementary school days and their days at a regular high school. Children who are home schooled are in educational programs implemented by their parents or by private tutors hired by their parents. What this means is that their home school education consists of an extremely sheltered environment and an extremely limited social circle; basically, the social circle is limited and controlled by the parents.

What this means is that when the children arrive at a public or a private high school, they are unaccustomed to the sheer amount and the sheer variety of the people that they come into contact with. This comes as quite a shock and quite a contrast between their home school education days and their secondary education days. Some children flourish with the new social circle, but some children get lost in the crowd. Yet other children get caught up with the entirely wrong crowd and end up in a social circle that their parents quite readily disapprove of.
Easing the Way
One of the most important things about early home school education is making sure that the children have adequate and varied social circles. Making sure that the children are not always in the same crowd and in the same environment will help the children to learn to make their own choices and to make the 'right' choices. These situations encountered very early on are some of the formative experiences of early childhood. As children grow, they should continue to be in these kinds of groups think recreational soccer and YMCA gymnastics in order to encounter people from different socio economic groups and to learn to interact with people whose parents' don't shop at the same stores as their own parents. These experiences will ease later transitions from home school education to vaster educational settings.
